Strickland Forest Expo

The Strickland Forest Expo is a hands on competition for Stage 3 students in recognition of Biodiversity Month and Threatened Species Week (the week of Sept 7 each year) The event is presented by Education Officers from Rumbalara EEC, State Forests and Taronga Zoo. Schools are asked to nominate a team of 30 students to participate for one full day during the week long event.

Activities include:

  • a guided walk though the rainforest
  • wildflower identification
  • observing native animals from Taronga Zoo
  • forest management role play
 

The competition requires students to produce a management plan for Strickland State Forest. Maps and information about the day are downloaded from the Rumbalara Website and completed back at school using the knowledge gained on the day. Prizes include t-shirts, books and zoo passes.
